Cookies
Nothing is stored on your device until you say it can, and nothing here is used for advertising or follows you to another site. This page lists every item the site stores in your browser, and the one thing we count that stores nothing at all.
Before you choose anything
Google Analytics is not loaded when you arrive. The script that would set Google’s cookies is not fetched at all until you press Accept, so declining is not a matter of trusting us to switch something off afterwards — there is nothing to switch off.
Accept and Decline on the banner are the same size and the same prominence, deliberately. Consent that is only easy to give is not freely given, and the rules expect refusing to be as easy as agreeing.
The count that uses no cookie
We keep our own count of who reads this site. It stores nothing in your browser — no cookie, no local storage, nothing you could clear — so it is not in the list below, because there is nothing of it to list.
It works from what your browser already sends us to fetch a page: which page, the internet address your connection is using, which browser you are in, and which site you came from. The page tells us how long it was open and how far down it you read. Your address is deleted after ninety days.
That count runs whichever button you press on the banner, because the banner is about storing things on your device and this stores nothing. The privacy notice has the full version, and you can email hello@repairring.co.uk to be left out of it.
What is stored, in full
Your cookie choice — always stored
- Name:
repairring.consent - Type: local storage, not a cookie. It never leaves your browser and is never sent to us.
- Purpose: remembering whether you accepted or declined, so the banner stops asking.
- Lasts: until you clear your browser’s data for this site.
This one is stored whichever button you press, including Decline. Remembering that you said no is the only way to stop asking, and it is what the rules class as strictly necessary.
Where you came from — stored only if you arrive from a link with a code in it
- Name:
repairring.source - Type: session storage, not a cookie.
- Purpose: if you arrive on a link ending
?s=— from a leaflet, a card or a poster — the short code after it is kept so that if you go on to register your garage, we can tell which one you saw. It contains no information about you. - Lasts: until you close the tab. It is not stored if you arrive without a code.
Google Analytics — only after you accept
- Names:
_gaand_ga_*, set by Google. - Purpose: counting visits and seeing which pages get read, so effort goes into the ones that do. No advertising, no cross-site tracking, and no profile built about you.
- Lasts: up to two years, as set by Google.
- Who else sees it: Google, as the analytics provider. Their privacy policy covers what they do with it.
Advertising, personalisation and profiling storage are all explicitly refused before the script is allowed to run, and stay refused. Accepting turns on visit counting and nothing else.
Changing your mind
Clear this site’s data in your browser settings — for the site, not necessarily your whole history — and the banner will ask again on your next visit. If you accepted and want the analytics cookies gone, clearing site data removes them.
Most browsers also offer a “Do Not Track” or global privacy setting, and blocking third-party scripts or using a blocker will stop Google Analytics loading regardless of what you press here. The site works normally either way.
Asking about any of this
Email hello@repairring.co.uk and a person will answer. The privacy notice covers the details you give us on the priority-list form and what the demonstration phone line records.
