Who is behind it

Built in Norfolk, for garages that answer their own phone.

RepairRing is a small thing built properly rather than a large thing built quickly. This page is what is behind it, and what it will and will not claim.

What it is

RepairRing answers your garage’s telephone. It gives your garage’s name, listens to what the caller actually wants, takes the vehicle registration and reads it back until the caller agrees it, offers appointment times from your own availability, and confirms a booking only once somebody has said yes to a specific time. Then it tells you, immediately, with everything on it.

That is the whole product. It is not a garage management system, it does not want to own your diary, and it is not trying to replace whoever currently picks the phone up. It is there for the calls nobody could get to, which in most independent garages is a great many of them.

Why it is built to say “I don’t know”

Anything can be made to sound confident down a phone line, and a confident wrong answer is worse for your garage than no answer at all. A caller told their grinding noise is “probably the pads, about eighty pounds” has been quoted a price nobody agreed to. A caller told their warning light is a sensor arrives expecting a sensor.

So RepairRing refuses. It will not diagnose a fault, it will not price work you have not priced, it will not tell a caller something about their vehicle that the caller did not tell it first, and it will not put an appointment in that nobody accepted. Several products in this market advertise live vehicle checks that the official source does not actually supply. Being the one that does not make things up is a claim that survives a garage owner ringing up and trying to catch it out — which is exactly what we would like you to do.

Who is behind it

RepairRing is built by Kevin Mackay, who founded OrderRing Ltd and works from Dereham in Norfolk. Not a head office somewhere else with a Norfolk phone number — the same county as the garages the first flyers are going to, about twenty minutes from most of them.

That is worth saying plainly because of what it means for you rather than for him. An email to hello@repairring.co.uk reaches the person who built the thing, not a queue. The call you get after registering is from him. If you tell him it has got something wrong, it can be changed that week, and if you tell him it should refuse to do something, it can.

That only stays true while there are few enough garages for it to be true, which is the honest reason to get on the list now rather than later. You are who gets asked what this should do, what it should never do, and what it is worth.

OrderRing Ltd is registered in England and Wales, company number 17401172. The registered office is a London service address, as it is for a great many small companies; the work is done in Dereham.

Two minutes

The fastest way to judge it is to use it.

Listen to a call it has taken, or put your garage on the list and tell us what it needs to do.
